Yesterday KCMO voters gave a big thumbs up to the city’s plan to invest $800 million in infrastructure – including $150 million for sidewalks, $450 million for Complete Streets, and a shift of sidewalk funding from homeowners to the city. Questions 1-2-3 passed with 66% on a turnout more than twice the 2015 mayoral election. Read more at The Star.
Here at BikeWalkKC we are excited to start working with partners at City Hall to plan the infrastructure projects and develop a framework for prioritizing sidewalk investments. Last week at our urging the City Council passed new legislation kicking off the process of creating plans and public policies to ensure the bond money gets spent as promised to maximize neighborhood mobility, safety, and economic development.
Thank You!
We want to give a big shout-out to everyone who supported sidewalks and Complete Streets over the past year – the neighborhoods and community organizations in the Sidewalks KC Coalition, the individuals who wrote letters and spoke up at City Hall, and everyone who voted yesterday. Your efforts made all the difference and are inspiring signs of confidence in the future of Kansas City!
Stay tuned for information what comes next, and how you can stay involved.
