BikeWalkKC Receives Grant to Create the Active Living Policy Council from Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City

Women's Bike Summit 2015 - 9-19-15 - 9

BikeWalkKC  has been awarded a $171,344 grant from the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City (HCF) for the Active Living Policy Council.

The Active Living Policy council is another one of our goals on our strategic plan and is geared towards providing more leadership in the underserved areas of Kansas City, along with creating the ability for these neighborhoods to advocate for themselves for active transportation opportunities such as better sidewalks, safe routes to schools and accessible bikeshare stations.

BikeWalkKC and HCF share a common goal to help the uninsured population and we are grateful to continue to do so,” said Eric Rogers, Executive Director of BikeWalkKC. “This grant allows us to reach more people who are in need of our services, namely those who have been underserved throughout the metro region.

“The loss of the [Bike-Friendly Community] designation is an opportunity and justification for continued emphasis on policy efforts by BikeWalkKC and others in order to bring even more attention to the importance of bikeability/walkability and to see sustained improvements in our community,” says
Brenda Calvin, HCF Program Officer.

In 2016, HCGF will award approximately $20 million in grants in the Greater Kansas City area. HCF financially supports programs, projects and services that eliminate barriers and promote quality health for the uninsured or underserved.
