Caroline has been a staple in the biking community, and is also an outstanding BikeWalkKC volunteer and educator. Awardees are recognized for their contributions and achievements in sports and fitness. Congratulations, Caroline!

Action Alert: support completion of the Turkey Creek Trail in Mission

The Prairie Village Post reports that the Mission City Council is once again balking at accepting federal funds for Johnson County’s final piece of the 10 mile Turkey Creek Trail, part of the regional MetroGreen system connecting Merriam, Overland Park, Mission, KCK, and Downtown KCMO. Let the Mission Mayor and City Council know that there is strong public support for the final segment of the Turkey Creek Trail in Johnson County. Learn more >>

How downtown Kansas City’s “transit emphasis corridors” can include bike facilities

The Kansas City Area Transit Authority has plans in the works for rerouting all of their buses onto “Transit Emphasis Corridors” (TECs). These TECs are also on the city’s bike plan. We have taken this as an opportunity to do some research on the national best practices for integrating bike facilities along transit-heavy corridors. Confident City Cycling

Our adult education returns for another installment this March. Get the knowledge and skills to bike safely and confidently on city streets. This class is great for everyone from new cyclists to seasoned bike commuters. Learn more and register for the class

Want to share your passion and enthusiasm with others? BikeWalkKC is once again hosting the League of American Bicyclists’ instructor certification seminar in April. Become a League Cycling Instructor and learn how to each others safe and confident cycling. Read more.


Students and interns help keep us rollin’

Our Cristo Rey High School work-study students have been a valuable addition to our office team! Thanks to their hard work, membership cards went out at the end of January, and our office looks just a little cleaner.

Also this spring, students from UMKC’s public health program and the KC Art Institute will be helping BikeWalkKC achieve lots of things. Stay tuned!

New Belgium Clips wants your videos!

Do you make videos about beer, bikes, adventure or life? Submit your clip to be in New Belgium Clips Film + Beer Tour show! Each year, this event chooses several submissions that are shown at the traveling beer and bike festival. Winners get neat prizes, plus their video is shown to thousands of cool people all across the country.

New Belgium Clips Film + Beer Tour is returning to KC on May 21, and we are once again the beneficiary! We’ll need lots of volunteers, so let us know if you’re interested in helping out at one of our biggest events.

In late 2014 Joel Dyke passed away and Chuong Doan was seriously injured in a car crash. Both families need our support.

Bike Share is open all winter with new stations

kcbcycleKansas B-cycle’s new stations in Westport and the Country Club Plaza are off to a great start! B-cycle is once again open all winter long, so you can take advantage of the new stations to try bike share.
