ADVOCACY ALERT: Learn more about the Wyandotte County Budget!

Attend the meeting on Thursday, June 5 at at 7:00 PM at the UG Municipal Building (701 N. 7th Street) to learn more and provide input on the proposed budget.

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and KCK (UG) is working to set the priorities for the annual budget preparation for all city and county services. Over the next several months, the UG Commission will participate in a series of budget workshops to discuss various considerations when establishing these priorities. The County Administrator then prepares and presents a proposed 2026 budget in August 2025 for adoption.

The meeting on June 5 is one of the best opportunities to engage directly with elected officials and staff about what you want to see them prioritize in the next budget. When it comes to active transportation, there are two key items that BikeWalkKC and our partners have been keeping an eye on:

  • Transit Funding: BikeWalkKC spoke out against funding cuts that led to reductions in transit service last year. Since those cuts have gone into effect, we’ve worked with partners to push for restored funding and long-term changes to make transit more viable. Preserving transit funding in this year’s budget is a key part of that strategy.
  • Vision Zero: Earlier this year, the Unified Government launched efforts to develop its own Vision Zero Action Plan. The goal is to develop a framework to guide the UG’s efforts to eliminate fatal and serious injury crashes. It’s also one of the key implementation steps of the goDotte Strategic Mobility Plan, which is intended to help improve aspects of multimodal transportation throughout the county in the years ahead.

Please attend the meeting on June 5 and let the UG know what you want to see prioritized in the 2026 budget! Not sure how to prepare for speaking at the public meetings?
