Lati Horton joins Policy and Advocacy Team

BikeWalkKC is pleased to welcome Americorps/VISTA member Lati Horton to the policy and advocacy team. Her position is supported by the Kansas City Public Library through The Library VISTA Project.  A recent graduate of Kansas State University, Lati will identify pedestrian/bicyclist champions, build relationships, and support the Complete KC vision as a Community Ambassador in Kansas City, Missouri.

At KSU, Lati was a sociology major who got into the field because she wants to be of service to her community. She especially enjoys digging into the root causes of inequality, and believes that the best way to get the whole truth is to listen. “It’s important to build relationships with people before forming opinions about their points of view,” she says. “Be ready to learn from others.”

Redefining our streets as places for people requires neighborhood engagement, and our Advocacy Agenda for 2020 is especially outreach-oriented, including efforts to see the KCMO Bike Plan and Vision Zero being adopted by the full City Council. Policy Manager Michael Kelley says, “We are very excited to have Lati join the team, and we believe she will enhance our advocacy efforts a great deal as we work to  build a culture of active living throughout the region.” Lati is looking forward to connecting residents to resources, City staff, and elected representatives to make lasting change right where they live.
