PRESS RELEASE: Pedestrian struck near Brookside Art Annual

A pedestrian was struck by the driver of a vehicle near the Brookside Art Annual.

The crash occurred on Friday, May 3, about a block away from the event. The pedestrian was crossing Meyer Boulevard at Brookside Boulevard when they were struck.

There was no word on the identity of the victim or their condition.

“Our first priority is to make sure that the victim will be alright,” said Eric Rogers, executive director for BikeWalkKC. “We will do our best to find more information about this person and their condition because people need to know.”

“This only reinforces how little we are prioritizing the lives of vulnerable road users,” noted Eric Bunch, the advocacy organization’s policy director. “People deserve to enjoy these events without having to worry about being hit while crossing the street.”

This marks the third reported crash involving a pedestrian since April 29. In the two previous crashes, both victims died as a result of their injuries.

As BikeWalkKC has stated in the past, what deserves the brunt of the blame for these crashes is the culture that values car traffic efficiency over the safety of human lives.

BikeWalkKC believes that crashes are not accidents and clothing is not an excuse.
