Update August 26, 2025
Sept. 10: LAST CHANCE to pave a safer future for Broadway Boulevard!
Were you at the Broadway Boulevard meeting in July? So many people attended that the city officials ran out of paper surveys! And now, thanks to your participation, city leaders have finalized a design for the corridor. We need you to show up one more time to reinforce the message that Kansas Citians want Broadway to be safer for everyone. Here’s what YOU can do to help move this project forward:
- Attend the meeting on Wednesday, September 10 at Drexel Hall (3301 Baltimore Avenue). You can come and go any time between 5:30-7:00 p.m.
- Invite your friends and neighbors to join you at the meeting as well. We want to make sure that there’s a good showing among people who want Broadway Boulevard to be safer for everyone!

Overview:
- City leaders are planning a public meeting to share options to make Broadway Boulevard safer.
- While BikeWalkKC has not seen the specific options, it is our understanding that a road diet is being considered.
- There is a clear opportunity for the city to follow the recommendations called for in the 2018 Midtown Complete Streets Plan.
- The public meeting is an opportunity to tell city leaders that you want a safer Broadway Boulevard for everyone.
More Details:
City Hall is finally taking initial steps to address long-standing issues along Broadway Boulevard in Midtown. City leaders have scheduled a public meeting to share several options with the public about potential ways to make Broadway safer for people who walk, roll, bike, ride public transportation, and drive.
This has been a big priority for various area stakeholders, including BikeWalkKC, for several years. As we’ve previously discussed, the City has a big opportunity to follow through on recommendations made from the 2018 Midtown Complete Streets Plan. Area wide recommendations include:
- Enhanced crosswalks
- Traffic signal coordination
- Dedicated signal phases and longer crossing times for people walking, rolling, and bicycling
For Broadway Boulevard (from 31st to 43rd Streets) specifically, the plan recommends a road diet and traffic calming with wider sidewalks and new protected bike lanes. A center turn lane and on-street parking could be retained for motorist safety and to support local businesses, respectively.
The need for safety improvements is also backed by data. The City’s High Injury Network shows that Broadway Boulevard is one of the most dangerous corridors in the city when it comes to crashes, serious injuries, and fatalities. Repaving the street without making changes to its current configuration will result in a missed opportunity to make our street network safer for everyone.
Here’s what you can do to help:
- Click here to take the survey and share it with your neighbors
- Attend the public meeting on Monday, July 7 from 5:30 – 7:00 PM to learn more about the proposed changes and advocate for safety improvements.
- Encourage your friends and neighbors to join you! There has been opposition to safety improvements in the past and city leaders need to know that people like YOU support these changes.
- Reach out to your council members! Use this link to find your council members and email them to ask them to support safety improvements along Broadway Boulevard.
