Collaboration of the City of Overland Park, BikeWalkKC, the Downtown Overland Park Partnership, InterUrban ArtHouse, and the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment provides 36 racks across Downtown Overland Park
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 12, 2018 – Installation is underway for new custom bike racks in Downtown Overland Park.
BikeWalkKC has been working with the City of Overland Park, the Downtown Overland Park Partnership, the InterUrban ArtHouse, and the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment to install custom-designed bike racks throughout Overland Park’s downtown area. The racks were designed by local artists and Downtown stakeholders and funded through the LiveWell Johnson County program.
Designed to be functional and visually interesting, the 36 custom racks are located convenient to Downtown destinations and businesses and provide easily identifiable branding for the district.
The bike racks are one part of Overland Park’s expanding bicycle infrastructure, including the recent adoption by the Overland Park’s City Council of a long-term, comprehensive bicycle plan, and Downtown Overland Park’s IDEA District. The IDEA District includes efforts to develop a creative placemaking plan that includes public art, clear signage and wayfinding, and transportation hubs.
