It goes by names like Ciclovia, Open Streets, Sunday Parkways, etc. BikeWalkKC is teaming up with MainCor to bring Kansas City into this movement with Cyclovia, part of the new Main Street Day on September 7th.

BikeWalkKC's Safe Routes to School Program is gearing up for back to school

In 1969, 50% of kids walked or biked to school. Today less than 15% do. Today's kids have a shortage of physical activity, and are the first generation of Americans with a shorter life expectency than their parents.

Our Safe Routes to School programs are working with local schools, governments, and neighborhoods to make it safer and easier for kids to walk and bike school. International Walk to School Day on October 9th is a great opportunity to walk your kids to school, or even organize a Walking School Bus with your neighbors.

Rail trail draws billion dollars in private investment

Some of the BikeWalkKC crew recently attended the Center For Transportation Excellence's conference in Atlanta, where we had the opportunity to explore the city's new Beltline Trail. This urban rail-to-trail project has spurred over a billion dollars of private investment in housing, offices, retail, and other development.
