Is your child’s school participating in International Walk to School Day October 9th?

In 1969 half of all kids biked or walked to school, and chronic diseases like obesity and childhood diabetes were rare. Today less than 15% of kids walk or bike to school, and today’s kids are the first generation of Americans with a lower life expectancy than their parents. Making our communities safe and accessible for kids to walk and bike to school improves kids’ health and academic performance.

Join schools and students around the world by walking to school on October 9th. BikeWalkKC is working with the Mid-America Regional Council to organize this regional celebration. Visit to make a pledge to walk to school with your child, and find out how your school can participate.

Bring our BLAST bike safety program to your school

A very important part of getting more kids biking to school is ensuring they have the knowledge and skills to bike safely and confidently. Our teacher-approved BLAST program brings a mobile bike fleet into local schools, reaching over 1,000 kids across the region last year. We are now taking applications from schools that want to participate in the fall semester. Learn more an apply now.
