National Bike Summit

This week much of our staff is in Washington, DC for the National Bike Summit, an annual gathering of bike/ped leaders from across the country. On Wednesday we will be meeting with the local Congressional delegation to talk about the importance of biking and walking for Kansas City’s economy, health, and environment. Federal support is critical for important local projects like the Heart of America Bridge, Indian Creek Trail, Bike Week, and local walk to school programs.

Our work in DC is made possible by the generous support of the KC Metro Bike Club, and our amazing members and donors. Thank you for enabling us to fight for you – from City Hall all the way to the US Capitol!

KCK Mayor’s race

The race to replace Joe Reardon narrowed to two bike-friendly finalists in last week’s primary election. Current Commissioners Ann Murguia and Mark Holland will advance to the run-off election on April 2nd. Both finalists have been strong supporters of biking and walking during their time on the Commission, and reiterated that support at the mayoral forum BikeWalkKC recently co-hosted with the Kansas City Regional Transit Alliance.
