The City of Overland Park, in partnership with Johnson County and the Mid-America Regional Council, have been working to evaluate the feasibility of a fast and frequent bus route along the Metcalf corridor for several months. They recently published data and other insights to help the public better understand where they are in the process. Some of the key takeaways from this work include:

  • Initial survey results showed that people would be more likely to ride with the development of more frequent service and faster travel times.
  • A proposed weekday schedule based on recommendations from the Johnson County Transit Strategic Plan.
  • Possible priority destinations such as Johnson County Community College, the Mission Transit Center, and stops in KCMO.

Broader support for expanded public transit was a desire we heard from many of our members during our Transportation Talk earlier this year. Finding ways to support more frequent and reliable public transit is critical to expanding the ways that people can safely and reliably move around the county and the region without needing to drive.

As the consulting team for the project continues to move forward with the study, they want to hear from people like YOU. Here’s how you can make your voice heard:

  • Take this brief survey to provide feedback on initial recommendations.
  • Be sure to complete the survey before Friday, August 15.
  • Encourage your friends and neighbors to take the survey as well!

The push for more frequent and reliable public transit in Johnson County and across the region will take time, energy, and teamwork. You can be part of that effort by taking this survey to help shape the vision for transit along one of the key corridors in the area.
