Board welcomes national expert in local innovation, mobility, and technology

BikeWalkKC’s Board of Directors is excited to welcome a new member. Ashley Z. Hand is Co-Founder of Cityfi, a consultancy that translates civic complexity into smart strategies for public and private sector leaders who need to anticipate urban change.

American cities are in the midst of a revolution in mobility and the use of city streets and public spaces. BikeWalkKC’s mission to put people first by redefining our streets as places for people to build a culture of active living is more timely than ever. Ashley’s experiences in transportation, municipal innovation, and technology will boost our ability to advocate for and achieve public policies that ensure that Kansas City leverages this revolution to support community goals for equity, safety, sustainability, quality of life, and shared prosperity.

Ashley previously served as the Transportation Technology Strategist for the City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation. As a fellow, she developed public policy, an action plan and pilot program recommendations for transportation happiness, shared mobility, automated vehicles and other technologies, Urban Mobility in a Digital Age, released in August of 2016.

Prior to her role with the City of Los Angeles, Ashley served as the first Chief Innovation Officer for the City of Kansas City, Missouri where she created the nation’s most comprehensive smart city to date through a public-private partnership that utilizes large companies and nimble start-ups to fulfill the city’s goals, and initiated the development of a policy and operational framework to integrate technology into transportation, water and energy management for the city among other civic innovation projects.

Ashley is a registered architect and green building professional. She currently serves on the Advisory Council for the Carnegie Mellon University Mobility21/T-SET University Transportation Center and Open Architecture Collaborative and the board of the Kansas City Regional Transit Alliance, BikeWalkKC, KCMO Brownfield Commission, and Teach for America Kansas City Champions. Ashley was recognized as a national change maker by 2018 Grist 50.

Please join us in welcoming Ashley to the BikeWalkKC Board of Directors!
