Let’s keep a great Bike Month alive

Hi BikeWalkKC Friends!

We want to thank the thousands of you who came out to our events during Bike Month this past May to celebrate cycling and active living.

We knew it was going to be a good month after the first event, the KC Women’s Bike Summit, on May 10th. It was the first-ever event of its kind in KC, and it was an awesome success. Over a 150 women — and a few guys — came down to the Kauffman Foundation for a day of learning and making friends. Through speeches, workshops and socializing, we all learned from each other. That includes us at BikeWalkKC — we heard about the issues that concern women while riding, issues that we’re now going to focus even more on addressing.

All of it was a reminder that we’re not possible without you.
The next week, our expectations were exceeded again. May 18th brought the return of one of our most popular events, the newly renamed “Tour de Bier.” And it was the largest turnout yet –1,500 riders experienced the historic sites and (yeah, probably more importantly for some attendees) the modern products of KC’s brewing culture.

Seeing so many riders and support told us that cycling in Kansas City is strong and growing.
As Bike Month wrapped up, we celebrated one more time. This time, it was under the stars in front of the beautiful Nelson-Atkins, for the return of New Belgium Clips of Faith. Hundreds of you turned out for what’s basically a travelling circus of craft beer and craft short films. The weather was nice and the company was good. And most of you rode your bikes, which made the night even better.

Today, whether you joined us for Bike Month or not, we hope you’ll take the next step and become a member of BikeWalkKC. Help us keep up the momentum that’s making KC a great cycling city.

You can become a member today online. We’ll see you on the road and on the trail.
