Cleaver Boulevard Complete Street and Road Diet Details

The Parks Department and their consultants have unveiled the final plans for remaking Cleaver Boulevard into a Complete Street and make it look much more like a real boulevard. A road diet will re-purpose some of the automobile space into people space, complimented by several other features to make the road more people and environment friendly. This project will one of the most visible implementations of the City's new Livable Streets policy.

The first phase between Rockhill Road and The Paseo will begin construction this spring and be finished by fall of this year. The $2.3 million project has been awarded to Gunter Construction.

Complete Streets features coming to Cleaver Boulevard:

  • Car lanes narrow to eleven feet
  • On-street parking removed
  • Sidewalks expand from five feet to six feet west of Troost and as much as seven to twelve feet east of Troost
  • Four foot bike lanes added
  • High profile crosswalks at Rockhill, Troost, and The Paseo
  • New crosswalk at Tracy connects the Brush Creek Trail and pedestrian bridge over the creek
  • Three new bus shelters with solar-powered lighting
  • Landscaping and planter boxes to catch and filter stormwater runoff
  • New pedestrian lighting
  • Street trees added east of Troost
  • Most power lines moved underground, except for the main line along Troost
  • New public spaces on the northwest and southeast corners of Cleaver and Troost

Extending these improvements to the rest of Cleaver Boulevard will depend on future funding availability. We have heard a PIAC application may be pending for the segment between Oak and Main Streets, but for now this current project is the only thing on deck for Cleaver.
