Kansas’ growing rail trail network is in jeopardy in the Kansas Legislature. House Bill 2735 would impose a tax burden on rail trails and on the nonprofit organizations that build and maintain them. This would discourage development of new trails and potentially bankrupt the small nonprofit groups critical to Kansas trails.
BikeWalkKC’s ten year vision includes connecting the Flint Hills Nature Trail and the Katy Trail State Park via Kansas City. HB 2735 puts this vision in the jeopardy and prevents Kansas communities from realizing the same tourism and economic development rewards that the Katy Trail has brought to Missouri.
Please use this form to contact the House Transportation Committee before this bill goes to hearing in Topeka on Monday afternoon.
Four members of the House Transportation Committee are from the Kansas City area. If you live in one of their districts, a personal email or phone call from you as a constituent would be very helpful.
