The Johnson County Commission is considering a new Complete Streets policy for the rural, unincorporated areas of the county. The new policy would encourage county departments to more comprehensively consider bicycling and walking in the design of road and bridge projects in unincorporated Johnson County.

The proposed policy would not apply to incorporated cities, but would mean that rural Johnson County would join Leawood, KCK, KCMO, Independence, and Lee’s Summit as metro communities with Complete Streets policies. This would not be a blanket policy for the whole county. Each project would be evaluated individually to determine the most appropriate way to include all road users.
Thanks to KC Healthy Kids for helpling to organize the Johnson County Complete Streets campaign.
