Complete the survey by Friday, September 12 to help shape the Show-Me State’s 25-year vision for transportation.
- The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is seeking feedback on the goals and objectives for the update to their Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP).
- There are six goals listed: 1) Stewardship, 2) Safe, 3) Prosperous, 4) Reliable, 5) Connected, and 6) Innovative.
- This is another big opportunity to encourage MoDOT to prioritize the development of a statewide active transportation plan.

MoDOT has been deep in the weeds on transportation policy and priorities as they work to update the state’s Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). The LRTP is intended “to develop a policy-based plan that aligns with both state and federal regulations while guiding the development of Missouri’s transportation system”.
As part of the update, MoDOT has published a number of surveys to gather feedback from stakeholders across the state to help inform what they should prioritize. The latest survey specifically focuses on understanding what goals and objectives they should prioritize in the plan. They currently have six goals identified:
- Stewardship: Maintain current assets and services we have today.
- Safe: Work to enhance safety of the transportation system for all users.
- Prosperous: Boost the economy through transportation investments.
- Reliable: Ensure efficiency and reliability in the transportation network.
- Connected: Improve mobility and connect communities through expanded multimodal choice.
- Innovative: Integrate emerging technologies to make our transportation system prepared and future ready.
This survey is a bit more involved than other surveys, but there are some key areas where you can zero in to focus on speaking up for walking, accessibility, biking, and transit. This includes:
Question 2
- This is a drag and drop question where you drag options from one box to the other in order of importance.
- There are two options related to multimodal funding: one for infrastructure WITHIN cities and one for infrastructure BETWEEN cities.
- You can drag and drop those two items to the top of the list, while also dragging the option for expanding the transportation system to the bottom of the list.
Goal: Safe (Questions 6 and 7)
- In Question 6, you select a stewardship objective you want to modify. In Question 7, you explain how you want to modify the objective you picked.
- You can modify “Reduce barriers to access and provide protection for vulnerable road users” with “Develop a statewide active transportation plan that will reduce barriers to access and provide protection for vulnerable road users.”
Goal: Connected (Questions 12 and 13)
- In Question 12, you select a connected objective you want to modify. In Question 13, you explain how you want to modify the objective you picked.
- You can modify “Consider preservation and provision of additional multimodal connectivity during project development” with “Require preservation and provision of additional multimodal connectivity during project development”.
Including this language will help to demonstrate to MoDOT that people want the state to focus on creating the statewide active transportation plan, but also send a broader message that the state has to do more to prioritize people who walk, roll, bike, and use public transportation.
