Capitol Federal Main Street Day this Saturday
The traditional MA1N STREET M1LE race is expanding to include Cyclovia, KC's first sneak peek of the international ciclovia or open streets movement. For one afternoon on September 7, Main Street will be closed to cars and open to people for running, walking, biking, and enjoying this temporary public space. Confident City Cycling Class starts this month
Our intensive-three week course on bike handling skills and bicycling in the city kicks off on Sept. 10. Learn new concepts for navigating streets and safety knowledge in a supportive environment. This class is great for bike commuters, ride leaders, anyone who wants to lead adult or child bike training and transportation professionals. We only have a few spots left, so register today.
Bob Watts Bridge naming ceremony on September 20th
The late Bob Watts is being honored with the naming of the Heart of America Bridge’s new bike/ped path as the Bob Watts Memorial Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge. Bob was a pioneer in bicycle and pedestrian advocacy at the local, state, and national levels. Many of you donated to our fundraising campaign to raise $2,500 for the new bridge signage.
Join BikeWalkKC, local elected leaders, advocates, and the Watts family on the north end of the bridge for a brief naming ceremony and unveiling of the new signage on September 20.
Handlebar Happy Hour at The Big Rip Brewing Co. on September 12th
Join us for our monthly Handlebar Happy Hour at Big Rip Brewing, a new nano-brewery in North Kansas City. We’ll be joined by Ami Freeberg of Cultivate Kansas City and Idris Raoufi of The 816 Bicycle Collective. The Big Rip is perfectly located on the north end of the Heart of America Bridge's bike/ped path, and they donate a portion of their online merchandise sales to local nonprofits like BikeWalkKC.
Each month BikeWalkKC brings together cyclists and non-cyclists alike to hang out, make new friends, and share ideas about how to improve the community.

Local cyclists tell their bike stories at KC SpokesPeople

Last month we launched a new blog about bike commuting in the city, called KC SpokesPeople. Local bloggers are writing about their experiences on the road, from figuring out what to wear to dealing with bike maintenance and safety skills. BLAST Youth Program expands to Southeast Community Center
This fall our Bike Lesson And Safety Training is coming to seven schools, and now we we offering it to the public through a partnership with KC Parks and the Southeast Community Center. For four weekends this fall youth aged 10-15 will learn basic bike maintenance, helmets and other personal safety equipment, intermediate traffic skills and concepts, on-bike skills training, and group rides. B-cycle gives Annual Members an hour for free
Annual Memberships for Kansas City B-cycle Powered by Blue KC are now an even better value. Our annual members now get the first full hour of each ride free, instead of the standard 30 minutes for short-term members. This gives members even more time to arrive at their destinations, shop at local stores, or linger over lunch.
