Bike Month is winding down, but there are still some amazing events coming up that celebrate the great diversity of KC’s bike community.
Women’s Cycling Series kicks off with a big group, next installment on May 28th
A great group attended our first two Smart Cycling Women’s Series classes. Attendees learned topics like simple bike repairs and talked about how to get involved in the growing discussion citywide about women and cycling. The next session is May 28th. Confident City Cycling is all learning to ride confidently for transportation, fitness, and recreation. We will go on a group ride, so bring your bike or borrow a B-cycle.
Future topics include Cargo & Commuting, plus Women, Biking, & Health.

Safe Routes to School Workshop on May 24th
Friday we are presenting a free workshop to help parents, teachers, and neighbors make it safer and easier for kids to walk and bike to school. Learn how communities around the region and the country are improving safety, health, and academic performance. You will leave with a workable plan to create a healthy change in your community. Lunch is provided. This workshop is made possible by the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City.
New Belgium Clips Film and Beer Festival on June 6th
We are excited to welcome New Belgium Brewery back to KC for the third annual Film and Beer Festival under the stars on the Brush Creek Trail. Watch some awesome short films while sampling New Belgium favorites and trying some upcoming brews.
Bring your own picnic or try great local food from several restaurant vendors. Attendees can also enter to win a famous New Belgium cruiser bike! There will be plenty of kid-friendly entertainment and refreshments, so bring the whole family. Admission is free, and those who ride will have free bike valet service!

New Belgium Tap Invasion and Bike Ride at Bier Station: Get into the Clips spirit with a casual bike ride and beer tasting at the Bier Station in Waldo on June 4th.
Handlebar Happy Hour – First Friday Edition on June 7th
Join us this First Friday for a Handlebar Happy Hour Like no other. This HHH is the best of both worlds – a one of a kind art show and beer sampling sponsored by Tallgrass Brewery. Local artists will be showing several different bike-themed pieces in a variety of mediums. Remember to ride a B-cycle to this event – there is a station right outside the front door. This event is from 5:00 until 10:00 at Event Port, 208 W. 19th St. In the heart of the Crossroads arts district. More information.
Bike Month Another Success
Thousands of people participated in events during the week of May 13-19 for the 2013 edition of KC Bike Week, the climax of local Bike Month festivities.
Supporters gathered May 13th for Handlebar Happy Hour: Bike Week Edition to officially kick things off (BikeWalkKC hosted two of its regular social events, just for Bike Month). Wednesday, May 15th, about a hundred riders gathered for the Ride of Silence, honoring cyclists killed on area roads. The next night, putting a twist on a favorite twentieth century pastime, cyclists rode to Boulevard Drive-In theater in KCK for the second-annual Bike-In Movie sponsored by Rosedale Development Association. Dozens enjoyed bike-messenger thriller Premium Rush on the outdoor silver screen.
All week long, cyclists on the Kansas side enjoyed free breakfast stops sponsored by the City of Overland Park. And on Friday, May 17th, bike commuters area wide participated in national Bike to Work Day. Kansas City B-cycle Powered by Blue KC offered free day-long bike share memberships hosted lunch Downtown for those who rode.
Hundreds capped off the week at Tour de Brew KC, Sunday, May 19th. Riders visited the sites of Kansas City’s big beer history and and capped the day by sampling the city’s current brews.
It was the best of cycling in KC, all Bike Week long!
