Highlighted Projects
Rock Creek Corridor Improvements: Downtown Center to East Gateway
The Rock Creek Corridor Study is a Planning for Sustainable Places (PSP) project utilizing funds awarded by the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC). The City of Mission has partnered with Wilson & Company, Engineers and Architects who are leading a team of planners, engineers, and landscape architects (Hoxie Collective, SWT Design, and BikeWalkKC) to analyze the Rock Creek corridor from Woodson to Roeland Drive, and from Johnson Drive to Martway. This initiative will provide a unique opportunity to address overlapping transportation, amenities, economic development, housing, and environmental needs along the trail which will help shape the future of the Rock Creek corridor and the downtown commercial district. This effort aims to enhance mobility, safety, and quality of life in Mission. Read more.
Riverside MO Comprehensive Plan
The City of Riverside is planning for the future by updating the Master Plan from 2010. BikeWalkKC’s project role is focused on Riverside’s active transportation elements. In particular, BikeWalkKC planned the future of bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure for recreational purposes, and also as a viable form of transportation for daily activities. Riverside has a well established off-street trails network but faces connectivity barriers due to the highway crossings. While some of these crossings are physically short, the lack of comfort and sense of safety for the user are deterrents to riding a bike or walking. However, many Riverside community members do not have consistent or reliable access to a vehicle. BikeWalkKC led bike rides and walk audits with elected officials, advisory committee members, and community members to create a shared experience and understanding of the infrastructure. Read More.
Emmanuel Cleaver II Boulevard Complete Streets
BikeWalkKC worked with the KCMO Chief Mobility Officer to conduct post-construction multimodal counts along Cleaver Blvd. from Oak Street to Rockhill Road. These multimodal counts were compared to biking and pedestrian activity before the protected bike lanes and mid-block crossings were installed to evaluate how the new infrastructure changed behavior. What we discovered was truly remarkable: bike and pedestrian counts more than doubled after the new bike and pedestrian infrastructure was installed! Online and intercept surveys were also conducted to see how the new infrastructure made people feel. Read more.
