Bike, walk, and transit

Have you ever considered leaving the car at home and trying a “greener” commute? Here are some ideas to consider:

  • Plan your route: there are lots of great and free apps for route mapping, and Google Maps also now offers “bike” and “walk” mapping tools as well. The Regional Trails & Bikeways map can show you where bike routes and bike paths are located.
  • A bit too far to bike? Use Bike + Bus to tackle your first/last mile.
  • If biking, remember the ABC Quick Check and wear a properly-fitted helmet (pro tip: our business partners offer discounts for BikeWalkKC members)
  • Don’t have a bike? Use RideKC Bike!
  • Freshen up: keep a small bag of items at your office like wet wipes, deodorant, etc.
  • Buddy Up: find a colleague to ride or walk with.
  • Get the skills: take our Confident City Cycling class and/or check out our Maintain Your Ride online so you’ll be prepared and ready to ride.
  • Green Your Errands: if you are working at home or your commute isn’t practical on foot/bike/bus, then think about those errands closer to home (the grocery store, restaurant take-out, pharmacy, bank, etc.). A backpack or bike-mounted basket can help you transport items.

Did You Know?

In many parts of the region, households spend more on transportation than housing.

Yes: you CAN bring your bike on the bus!
