BikeWalkKC's Programs and Activities

Youth Education
Our Local Spokes education programs teach youth the skills they need to bike safely and confidently to school or around their neighborhood. Since 2015 these programs have served more than 5,700 kids at several schools in the Shawnee Mission and Olathe districts. Learn more.

Safe Routes to School
BikeWalkKC provides technical assistance and programs to schools and school districts to help them get more kids walking and biking to school. Recent highlights include working with Trailwood Elementary School in the Shawnee Mission District to study ways to improve the built environment for pedestrians. Learn more.

Live Well Johnson County
We are the active living partner in the County Health Department's Live Well Johnson County project. BikeWalkKC is providing technical assistance for municipalities like Roeland Park, Mission, and Shawnee to help increase walking and bicycling. Our work includes a Bike-Friendly Business Guide and a Road Diet Guide for the City of Mission.

Bike Share
Johnson County is a future goal for our RideKC Bike program. We are in the very early stages of planning for a future expansion into the county.

Olathe Downtown Active Transportation Plan

From protected bike lanes to greenways, the City of Olathe is working on a new plan, Envision Olathe, to implement a new "active transportation plan. The goal of the plan is to integrate the busy streets, quiet streets, trains, bicycles and more in a way which makes people feel safe and promotes getting outside and living a healthy lifestyle. Lenexa Complete Streets and Bike Lanes
Thanks to the work of grassroots organizers and city leadership, the City of Lenexa recently adopted a formal Complete Streets policy, with a goal of eventually getting on-street bike lanes added in a city that has historically focused on multi-use trails instead. Click here to learn more.
