BikeWalkKC's Programs and Activities
Youth Education
Our Local Spokes education programs teach youth the skills they need to bike safely and confidently to school or around their neighborhood. Since 2015, these programs have served more than 7,000 kids at several schools in the Shawnee Mission and Olathe school districts. Learn more.
Safe Routes to School
BikeWalkKC provides technical assistance and programs to schools and school districts to help them get more kids walking and biking to school. Recent highlights include working with Trailwood Elementary School in the Shawnee Mission School District to study ways to improve the built environment for pedestrians. Learn more.
Live Well Johnson County
We are the active living partner in the County Health Department's Live Well Johnson County project. BikeWalkKC is providing technical assistance for municipalities like Roeland Park, Mission, and Shawnee to help increase walking and bicycling. Our work includes a Bike-Friendly Business Guide and a Road Diet Guide for the City of Mission.

In partnership with The Johnson County Park & Recreation District, RideKC pedal bikes are now available in seven area parks. Click here to learn more.
Current Campaigns and Advocacy Issues
Mission: Bike Lanes on Lamar
The City of Mission is installing new painted bike lanes on Lamar between Foxridge and Shawnee Mission Parkway, with work expected to conclude in September 2020. This work is part of a larger federal Safe Routes to School grant.
Prairie Village Bike/Pedestrian Plan
A new plan is in the works to promote walking and biking in Prairie Village, including the possibility of future bike lanes. Now is the time to speak up! Visit the project web site.
Olathe Downtown Active Transportation Plan
From protected bike lanes to greenways, the City of Olathe has adopted Envision Olathe, a new "active transportation plan." The goal of the plan is to integrate the busy streets, quiet streets, trains, bicycles and more in a way which makes people feel safe and promotes getting outside and living a healthy lifestyle. Lenexa Complete Streets and Bike Lanes
Thanks to the work of grassroots organizers and city leadership, the City of Lenexa recently adopted a formal Complete Streets plan, with a goal of eventually getting on-street bike lanes added in a city that has historically focused on multi-use trails instead. Click here to learn more.

Local advisory committees: Several communities have citizen boards or commissions that include bike/pedestrian issues and are great opportunities for you to get involved locally:
Leawood: Bike/Walk Leawood
Mission: Sustainability Commission, 1st Mondays at 6:30 p.m.
Roeland Park: Sustainability Committee, 1st Thursdays at 4:00 p.m.
Shawnee: Bicycle Advisory Board, Meets quarterly.
Overland Park: Environmental Advisory Council, 2nd Thursdays at 6 p.m.
