Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day

November 14
Free
This is a national event from Ruby Bridges Foundation
In 1960, six year old Ruby Bridges and her guard of federal marshals walked to William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans. Ruby was the first Black child to attend this formerly all-white school after the Supreme Court declared school segregation unconstitutional. Today, Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day is an annual day of dialogue commemorating Ruby's historic steps.
Are you ready for Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day? Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day honors the living legacy of civil rights activist Ruby Bridges. Every November 14th, we celebrate Ruby’s courageous and historic act by encouraging students to walk to school and engaging in a day of dialogue about activism, anti-racism, and anti-bullying. The goal is to inspire kids to make positive changes in their school and community.
