BikeWalkKC’s Board of Directors are community leaders with a passion for making Greater Kansas City a safer and more welcoming place for people who walk, bike, and roll. The Board Nominating Committee identifies future director candidates with strong leadership skills and experience in helping nonprofit organizations execute strategy and development plans.
The organization is a regional and national leader in the fields of advocacy, public policy, education, community planning, and shared use mobility. We enjoy a growing base of loyal supporters and diversified funding base. In June 2022 we hope to add 2-3 individuals who can help us expand our partnerships with a broader pool of individual and institutional supporters who share our mission to redefine KC’s streets as places to build a culture of active living.
Commitment to Diversity
BikeWalkKC strives to reflect the diverse communities we serve, and as so we actively seek a wide ranging representation of Greater Kansas City’s ethnicity, gender, age, geography, income, and life experience. While have done a lot of work towards this goal, we still have a long way to go. Prospective candidates who can expand the board’s diversity in any of these or other areas are highly encouraged.
This year we are especially interested in candidates who can help us improve representation in some specific areas:
- People of color
- Business leaders whose employers can provide corporate charitable support
- Northland and Eastern Jackson County residents
- K-12 teachers, principals, or school administrators
- Health care professionals, especially physicians or hospital administrators
Expectation of Service
Board members are expected to attend regularly scheduled board meetings (at least six per year), serve on board committees as needed, provide counsel to BikeWalkKC’s executive staff in their areas of professional expertise and life experience, and maintain current membership in the organization.
The Board currently meets at 4:30 pm on the second Wednesday of even-numbered months.
How to get started
Candidates who are interested in exploring whether their skills and interests align with BikeWalkKC’s needs are invited to make an initial expression of interest in board membership by filling out this form.
Timeline and Pandemic Considerations
We hope to chat with interested candidates in early 2022, and then hold elections at the June 2022 board meeting. The board is currently meeting virtually, but hopes to return to in person meetings by June 🤞.
