Connecting the Flint Hills Nature Trail to the Katy Trail
Connecting these two trails into a bi-state corridor is one of the key elements of BikeWalkKC’s 10 year vision for Greater Kansas City. In recent years we focused on the eastern half – the Rock Island corridor in Jackson County, MO. With the first segments of the Rock Island Trail opening, we are now preparing to turn our attention to the western half in Miami County, KS.
The key to making this connection is extending the Flint Hills Nature Trail into Olathe. There it will connect with the MetroGreen regional trail network, including the Rock Island Trail and the Katy Trail State Park. Miami County recently identified the route for this future connection, and we look forward to working with stakeholders in the county to begin moving it forward.
