Community Meeting: Independence Ave.
September 29, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
RideKC will hold a Community Meeting this Saturday to discuss its Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Planning and Feasibility Study for Independence Avenue, and we want to see you there!
The study has major implications for transit users in general and the region as a whole. The 9-mile stretch of Independence Avenue is one of the most dense and diverse in the region, and a BRT route could connect the downtown areas of Kansas City and Independence. The goals of the project go beyond connectivity, and also include:
- Economic development
- Safety and security
- Community character
BikeWalkKC needs you to come to not only show support for this new plan, but also to ensure that the area’s cyclists and pedestrians have a real voice in this critical transportation discussion. That means supporting proposed changes that include a road diet for cars, improved sidewalks for pedestrians, and dedicated bike lanes for cyclists. Ensuring that all of these potential changes are considered can not only strengthen the connectivity of the corridor, but encourage greater use among all road users.
