Kids can be advocates, too

What if the future looks like... kids winning safer streets?

When City Council proposed new rules for safety in school zones, Russell was ready to take action for himself and his fellow students. Drawing on what he learned in BikeWalkKC's Community Transportation Academy, Russell told council members that children, especially those with disabilities, need safer streets and good sidewalks. And thanks to his courage, City Council banned right-on-red in school zones!

Everyone has a role to play in making our communities safer, and YOU can be the spark that lights up a young advocate. Click here to support BikeWalkKC's advocacy training today!

Be a snow angel

Do you need help clearing your sidewalks? Can you help someone else shovel?

Snowy, icy, or muddy sidewalks can be the reason someone can't get to work or school safely, and not everyone can shovel their own sidewalks. Many hands make light work when you make a snow day a neighborhood get-together!

  1. Some people can shovel
  2. Some people can spread ice melt or sand
  3. Some people can lend shovels, snowblowers, or make cocoa
  4. Some people can organize the "snow day block party"

Several local cities also have programs that connect volunteer shovelers with residents who need help: Mission Snow Angels, Olathe Snow Brigade, Shawnee Snow Squad, or KCMO Snow Angels.
