BikeWalkKC’s Board of Directors are community leaders with a passion for making Greater Kansas City a safer and more welcoming place for people who walk, bike, and roll. The Board Nominating Committee identifies future director candidates with strong leadership skills and experience in helping nonprofit organizations execute strategy and development plans.
The organization is a regional and national leader in the fields of advocacy, public policy, education, community planning, and shared use mobility. We enjoy a growing base of loyal supporters and diversified funding base. In June 2025 we hope to add 3-4 individuals who can help us expand our partnerships with a broader pool of individual and institutional supporters who share our mission to redefine KC’s streets as places to build a culture of active living.
Commitment to Diversity
BikeWalkKC strives to reflect the diverse communities we serve, and as so we actively seek a wide ranging representation of Greater Kansas City’s ethnicity, gender, age, geography, income, and life experience. While have done a lot of work towards this goal, we still have a long way to go. Prospective candidates who can expand the board’s diversity in any of these or other areas are highly encouraged.
This year we are especially interested in candidates who can help us improve representation in some specific areas:
- People of color
- Northland and Eastern Jackson County residents
- K-12 teachers, principals, or school administrators
- Health care professionals, especially physicians or hospital administrators
- Business leaders whose employers can provide corporate charitable support
Expectation of Service
- Attend regularly scheduled board meetings in person (six per year)
- Serve on one board committee, meeting 2-3 times per year
- Make an annual monetary donation
- Provide counsel to BikeWalkKC’s executive staff in their areas of professional expertise and life experience
The Board currently meets in person at 11:30 a.m. on the third Wednesday of even-numbered months.
