State Avenue transit improvements

KCK’s State Avenue is the primary east/west transit corridor through the western half of the metro area, and is about to get some much needed improvements.

Near term
By 2013 federal stimulus TIGER funds will improve the corridor’s bus stops, shelters, and pedestrian connections. Two new transit centers will provide connections to bus routes serving the rest of the metro area.

Long term
Some day State Avenue could be upgraded to Bus Rapid Transit, similar to the existing MAX lines on Main Street and Troost Avenue in KCMO. However, this will depend on the city creating a dedicated funding source to pay for construction and operations.
