BikeWalkKC assisted coalition partners Johnson County and the Shawnee Mission School District with a guide and checklist for communities to use to develop and implement Safe Routes to School strategies. The guide tells the story of Roesland Elementary’s efforts, highlighting the best practices and “lessons learned” that parents, school officials, municipal staff, and elected leaders can use to promote active transportation at schools and in neighborhoods across the Kansas City region. The work at Roesland Elementary has already resulted in several improvements to the school site including new crosswalks and signage.
