Lamar Bike Lane Reveal and Group Ride

September 9, 2020 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

The new Lamar Bike Lanes are in! Funded by a Safe Routes to Schools grant, the lanes add new bike infrastructure on Lamar Avenue with lanes and sharrows between Foxridge Drive and Shawnee Mission Parkway.
The City of Mission invites you to celebrate this step forward. We’ll have a selfie station for you and your bike, quick bike safety tips and demonstrations about how to use the lanes safely, and a group ride!

BikeWalkKC instructors will be on-hand to share tips on the following topics:

  • Shifting
  • Kansas laws re: riding in traffic, obeying signage, etc.
  • Taking your lane – making safe and predictable movements while riding alongside cars.
  • Helmet safety, how to wear one correctly, and the A-B-C quick check.
  • Q&A on any questions from attendees.
Please bring a mask for times when we aren’t riding.
Come any time 5:30-7:30 p.m. to the overflow lot on Beverly Ave. across from the Community Center.
The group ride leaves at 6:45 p.m. The ride is optional for those who’d like to take part. It will be a 2.6 mile ride leaving from the Sylvester Powell, Jr. Community Center, north on Lamar Ave., east on 53rd Street, south on Reeds Rd. west on the Rock Creek Trail and back.
