Growing Community in Ivanhoe

July 19, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

Everything's coming up roses in Ivanhoe!

The way we build our cities can either connect us or divide us. When Alan and Yolanda Young first moved to the Ivanhoe neighborhood in the 1980s, they "had to drive to Timbuktu" to find fresh, healthy food. So they dug deep and started growing food for their family and their neighbors. Forty years later, farmers and makers in this former food desert are connecting people near and far with fresh produce and home goods.

The impact of the agriculture on the Ivanhoe neighborhood has been enormous, but farmers in Ivanhoe are nurturing more than just beans and tomatoes-- they are growing relationships. Join us for a conversation with Ivanhoe's agricultural leaders about how they create places for people.

Special guests:

This virtual event is perfect for neighborhood advocates, healthy communities champions, people who love to explore on foot or bicycle, and folks interested in urban agriculture. BikeWalkKC members are also invited to the Greens, Beans, and Bikes! market ride with Young Family Farm and Ivanhoe Farmer's Market on July 23rd. Not yet a BikeWalkKC member? Join here!

Note: We will host this meeting on Zoom and we will use Zoom's live transcription service. The recording will be available on our YouTube channel later in the week, and we will use YouTube's closed captioning service.
