The City of Kansas City, Missouri is making progress on the GO KC sidewalk program and developing a Comprehensive Sidewalk Plan as part of carrying it out. We’re holding four online public meetings this March to share information and talk with you about sidewalks in Kansas City. Learn more by attending any of the meetings described below. The Public Works Department’s Sidewalk Team will share similar information at each meeting. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no in-person public meetings. Background
In April 2017, Kansas City voters overwhelmingly supported an $800 million capital improvements program to remake Kansas City’s infrastructure over the next 20 years. As a result, Kansas City now dedicates $5 million per year to sidewalk repair and maintenance. The Sidewalk Team has been making spot repairs around the city based on the backlog of 311 requests from 2008 to 2016. Based on the current estimate, they will address the backlog by 2025. (View the current sidewalk inspection map). Once the backlog is complete, the next step will involve a systematic sidewalk construction repair process. The Comprehensive Sidewalk Plan, which will consider equity, community feedback, bicycle/pedestrian counts and activity, and other factors, will guide the effort, helping inform and prioritize repair projects.
