Local Organizations That Support Women and Cycling
816 Bicycle Collective: Kansas City’s DIY community bike shop on 31st and Cherry has been helping get people on bicycles for years.
Stolen Bikes KC: The Stolen Bikes KC Facebook and Twitter page are both managed by two local women, Andrea Fowles and Erica Birkman. The two started the efforts after Fowles’ bike was stolen. .
Revolve KC: Revolve is a community bike shop founded by Elizabeth Bejan and Theresa Van Ackeren.
Family Bicycles: Family Bicycles in Waldo is owned and operated by Theresa Van Ackeren, and is a BikeWalkKC Business Member.
STARS- Sisters That Are Riding Strong: Their aim is to encourage girls and women to participate in an active lifestyle by introducing them to the sport of cycling. They accomplish this by offering support in all aspects of cycling. This includes cycling skills, group rides, safety instruction, training, and nutrition all in a compassionate environment.
Women Cycle KC: An urban group promoting women cycling in Kansas City through their own rides and rides that grow out of the community they foster.
Sunday Family Fun Ride: A beautiful five and a half mile casual ride enjoying the car-free beauty of Cliff Drive Scenic Byways. They will stop as needed, no riders left behind. Every other Sunday through November.
Thursday Night Women’s Rides at Elite: Two groups – one will be no-drop that rides at an average pace of 12-14 mph and the other will ride at 16+ mph. The first group will ride the shorter route and second group will roll the longer route.
LadydudesKC: A women’s mountain biking group committed to growing the sport by encouraging, connecting, and supporting other women mountain bikers.
Bell Joy Ride KC: A women’s mountain biking group inspiring women to ride and progress in mountain biking by providing rides and resources that are supportive, social, fun and confidence building.
Velas: Velas is a group dedicated to creating awareness & support for women within the community through cycling, regardless of ability or experience.
