Thank you to YOU!
When we launched the Safe Routes to School program in 2012, the idea of teaching 50,000 kids to ride a bike and walk safely to and from school seemed out of reach. It’s community support - YOUR support - that has gotten us to this milestone.
THANK YOU for helping BikeWalkKC create one of the largest Safe Routes to School programs in the United States!
Thank you to our funding partners since 2012
Safe Routes to Schools has been fortunate to receive support from many local foundations and government entities. They believe in the power of walking and biking to build healthy, safe, welcoming communities.
"As a teacher, I have limited budgets and resources to teach the types of skills to my students that BikeWalkKC instructors provide them. These programs are important to keeping kids physically active through walking and biking. Especially for students who have never learned to ride a bike, the joy on their faces when they pedal on their own for the first time is priceless."

Schools, scout troops, social organizations, and youth groups invite BikeWalkKC to deliver our Safe Routes to School programs to their students. It's an honor to work with so many champions for the health and happiness of young people!
"BikeWalkKC's education programs gave students the knowledge and tools to practice bicycle safety hands-on. Kids feel more energetic and positive, increasing self-esteem, blood flow, endorphins, bone density, serotonin, muscle strength, inclusiveness with diverse peers, and so much more."

How our Safe Routes to School programs are funded
BikeWalkKC receives federal transportation funds that are passed through the Kansas and the Missouri departments of transportation. These funds will pay for 80% of the total Safe Routes to School program costs. To access these funds, BikeWalkKC must first raise the required 20% of program costs from individual donors, foundation grants, and other non-federal sources. Thanks to our community of individual, foundation, and government donors, BikeWalkKC has successfully brought more than $3.2 million in federal funding to the Kansas City region!
