SUMMARY:"Truman Connected" Bike/Pedestrian Path Public Meeting in Independence
DESCRIPTION:ADVOCACY ALERT: If you could design a pedestrian and bicycle path that connects residents and visitors to neighborhoods\, Independence Square\, Truman Library\, Englewood Arts District\, Truman Sports Complex\, and the Rock Island Trail\, what would it look like? The City of Independence\, in coordination with the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) and a Steering Committee of community members\, is kicking off Truman Connected to develop a concept. Community feedback is important to developing the best possible route\, so the City is seeking comments about the destinations you love\, barriers for reaching them by foot or bicycle\, and more. \nComment in person at our “pop-up” meetings listed below: \n\nFriday\, Aug. 16 from 5-9 p.m.\nat the 3rd Friday in the Englewood Arts District\, 11024 E Winner Road\nSaturday\, Aug. 17\, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.\nat the Farmers Market in the Uptown Market\, 211 W. Truman Road\nDuring the “pop-ups”\, community members will be able to review detailed maps of the study area and provide feedback. Staff from the City and consultant team will be located at information tables during the events to listen to comments and answer questions. No formal presentations will be given. \nThe planning process for Truman Connected began this spring and will continue through winter 2020. It will move the transportation recommendations of the City’s existing plans and policies\, such as the US-24 Highway Corridor Study and 40 Highway Corridor and Focus Area Plan\, forward. It will also provide detailed information that City staff\, elected officials\, and community members may use as they pursue funding for design and construction of recommended pedestrian\, bicycle\, transit\, and vehicular improvements. \nFor more information about Truman Connected\, please contact Kati Horner Gonzalez\, City Engineer\, at 816-325-6217 or khorner@indepmo.org. You may also contact Meg Lewis\, Public Information Officer\, at 816-325-7086 or mlewis@indepmo.org. The public may also follow the City on Facebook\, Twitter\, and Instagram and use our #TrumanConnected hashtag.
