SUMMARY:SidewalksKC Action Planning Sessions
DESCRIPTION:The third and final installment of the SidewalksKC Action Planning Sessions! \nPlease join us this summer to talk about sidewalks in KCMO. We are calling this new initiative SidewalksKC. You are an important stakeholder in this conversation\, and you may not even know it yet. \nWhy? \nSidewalks are a vital link throughout our community. They connect us to jobs\, schools\, and neighbors. They provide a safe place for our children to play and our people to thrive. Having good sidewalks is a matter of safety\, mobility\, and equity. Sidewalks are a key ingredient to a healthy community. \nRecently\, BikeWalkKC\, The Midtown KC Post\, The Whole Person\, Hope Faith Ministries\, and The Front Porch Alliance teamed up to brainstorm ways to address the persistent issues of sidewalk disrepair\, missing sidewalks\, and poor access for those with disabilities. \nHere is what we learned: \n\nKCMO would need to invest over $1 billion just to fix broken sidewalks and install them where they are absent\nHomeowners are saddled with the cost of replacing public sidewalks\nCitizen satisfaction in sidewalks is very low – 40% of residents are dissatisfied with sidewalks according to the city’s citizen satisfaction survey\nThe city has no systematic approach to maintaining sidewalks or prioritizing sidewalk infill\n\nNow we need your help in designing a plan to fix our sidewalks. \nYou will be joining a diverse group of partners including community service organizations\, neighborhood leaders\, city council members\, businesses\, schools\, and city staff. This stakeholder group will ultimately develop a workable game plan. \nPlease join us at The Whole Person (3710 Main St. KCMO\, 64111) for this series of Action Planning sessions from 9:30 to 11:30 on the following dates: \nJuly 13th – Defining the Challenges and Sharing our Sidewalk Stories\nAugust 2nd –  Brainstorming Opportunities\nAugust 31st – Establish our Action Items \nIn the end we will have concrete steps (yes\, pun intended) to planning\, funding\, and building sidewalks in KCMO. Let’s fix our sidewalks! Join SidewalksKC. \n[civicrm component=”event” id=”16895″ action=”register” mode=”live” hijack=”0″]
