SUMMARY:Merriam Connected Corridor Plan Open House
DESCRIPTION:See more \n \n	\n\n\n\n\nYou’re invited to attend the Merriam Connected Corridor Plan public open house on Tuesday\, April 12 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Merriam Community Center. \nThe plan is a joint effort among Overland Park\, Merriam\, the Unified Government of Kansas City\, Kansas and Wyandotte County\, and Mid-America Regional Council to envision the future of the Merriam Corridor\, a 4-mile stretch of Merriam Drive/Lane from W. 55th St. to S. 10th St. \nKEY PLAN ELEMENTS INCLUDE: \n\nVehicular safety and traffic flow improvements\nMultimodal connectivity along and to the corridor\nDevelopment and redevelopment opportunities\nBranding and streetscape enhancements\nTurkey Creek Trail enhancements and integration\nEnvironmental sustainability \n\n\n\n\nPROJECT OVERVIEW\n\n\nThe Merriam Connected Corridor Plan is a planning study that will assess all transportation modes along and around Merriam Drive/Lane\, including vehicular traffic\, bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure\, and public transit. The study will also assess the development and growth patterns within the corridor study area. \nThe corridor study area includes Merriam Drive/Lane and a buffer of approximately one-quarter mile\, running from W. 55th Street to S. 10th Street and includes portions of the cities of Merriam\, Overland Park\, Mission\, and Kansas City\, Kansas. The portion of Merriam Drive/Lane to be studied is approximately four miles long. \nStudy of the Turkey Creek Trail is another important aspect of this project. Missing linkages will be addressed to enhance the recreational and commuting potential of the trail\, and flood management mechanisms will be explored to make the trail more resilient in the event of severe weather. \n\nContact\nErin Ollig\, AICP\nManager\, Strategic Planning Division\nCity of Overland Park \nerin.ollig@opkansas.org\n913.895.6242

SUMMARY:Connecting Our Region Open House
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered how to get around the Kansas City Region by walking\, bicycling or taking transit? Do you think that connections between major destinations\, trails\, streets\, and other places could be easier to understand? \nYou’re in luck. The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA)\, the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC)\, and many local jurisdictions are working hard to make walking\, bicycling\, and transit better for you. There is a lot to celebrate: The region offers a range of transit options\, bikeshare and scooters\, a growing trails and on-street bike system\, and many great places to visit. To support these different ways of getting around\, KCATA\, in partnership with MARC\, is leading an effort to help cities and counties coordinate wayfinding for regional routes and destinations.  The signs will provide the information you need to find your way by walking\, bicycling or transit.

SUMMARY:Prairie Village Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Photo Credit: Shawnee Mission Post \nWednesday\, February 21\, from 5pm to 7pm at the Multi-Purpose Room at City Hall \nThe topic is city-wide bicycle and pedestrian accommodations in Prairie Village. The Prairie Village City Council\, through a Mid-America Regional Council funding program\, hired TranSystems to develop a comprehensive bike and pedestrian plan for the city. Their planners have worked with city staff\, community stakeholders\, and the public to develop a plan. This final public meeting will focus on sharing the draft of the final plan with the citizens of Prairie Village and registering their comments. The comments from this meeting will help the planners to fine tune the study and present a final draft to the City Council. \nHighlights of the plan include proposed sidewalks\, trails\, and bicycle facilities. Sidewalks are proposed for a few key roads to improve accessibility for pedestrians and mobility aid users. A side-path trail is proposed to traverse the city from 63rd Street to 95th Street\, providing connection points for regional trails such as the Rock Creek Trail and the Indian Creek Trail. Proposed on-street bicycle facilities include a primary network of low-stress shared roads with separated bicycle lanes on Nall Avenue. See www.pvkansas.com/bikepedplan for details. \nPlease stop by for a few minutes anytime between 5pm and 7pm on Wednesday the 21st. This time was selected so that commuters could stop by on their way home from work and others could come by before or after dinner. The meeting is open to all\, so feel free to bring your children. \nPlease contact the Prairie Village Public Works Department at 913-385-4647\, or email at\npublicworks@pvkansas.com if you have any questions.
