SUMMARY:Lamar Bike Lane Reveal and Group Ride
DESCRIPTION:The new Lamar Bike Lanes are in! Funded by a Safe Routes to Schools grant\, the lanes add new bike infrastructure on Lamar Avenue with lanes and sharrows between Foxridge Drive and Shawnee Mission Parkway.\nThe City of Mission invites you to celebrate this step forward. We’ll have a selfie station for you and your bike\, quick bike safety tips and demonstrations about how to use the lanes safely\, and a group ride!\n\nBikeWalkKC instructors will be on-hand to share tips on the following topics: \n\nShifting\nKansas laws re: riding in traffic\, obeying signage\, etc.\nTaking your lane – making safe and predictable movements while riding alongside cars.\nHelmet safety\, how to wear one correctly\, and the A-B-C quick check.\nQ&A on any questions from attendees.\n\n\nPlease bring a mask for times when we aren’t riding.\nCome any time 5:30-7:30 p.m. to the overflow lot on Beverly Ave. across from the Community Center.\nThe group ride leaves at 6:45 p.m. The ride is optional for those who’d like to take part. It will be a 2.6 mile ride leaving from the Sylvester Powell\, Jr. Community Center\, north on Lamar Ave.\, east on 53rd Street\, south on Reeds Rd. west on the Rock Creek Trail and back.

DESCRIPTION:Do you have an adult bike you’re not using\, but that still has some life in it? Do you need or want a gently used bike to get yourself riding this spring? Come to the Give-A-Bike\, Take-A-Bike Event! \nDonate gently used bicycles so they can be matched with a new rider! Browse the donated bikes and choose one that will work for you! Bikes will be available on a first-come\, first-served basis. Volunteers will be on hand to do basic maintenance\, adjust seat height\, air tires\, etc. \nDonations will also be collected at the event to be used to purchase new bikes for kids as part of the City of Mission’s Holiday Adoption Program. \nAnd\, enjoy the fine food and drink at The Bar in the Handlebar Happy Hour style you’ve come to love! \nCo-Sponsored by the City of Mission\, BikeWalkKC and hosted by The Bar

DESCRIPTION:Earth Hour is a chance for people around the world to #CONNECT2EARTH from 8:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. March 24 local time. Turn off the lights\, shut down the computers\, and give some thought to how you and your family can take action for our planet and nature. \nThe Mission Sustainability Commission will meet at Broadmoor Park\, beginning at 8 p.m. Meet and greet with friends and neighbors\, and then at 8:30 p.m.\, it’s lights out for s’mores roasting and trail walking. \nWe encourage you to bike or walk to this event! Make sure to turn off your lights at your home and office\, and join us in the park.
