Youth Education
Our four Local Spokes youth education programs teach kids the skills they need to bike and walk safely and confidently to school or around their neighborhood. We are pleased to have recently expanded our BLAST program in the Independence School District. Learn more.

Safe Routes to School
BikeWalkKC provides technical assistance and programs to schools and school districts to help them get more kids walking and biking to school. Learn more.

Bike Share
RideKC classic pedal bikes are now available at Longview Lake, with a station at Shelter 14 near the marina. Use the RideKC Bike app to check out a bike, and use the on-board lock to end your trip when you're done riding.

Current Public Projects

Rock Island Trail
Jackson County manages the Rock Island Corridor and is working to expand the Rock Island Trail. Ultimately, it will span from Kansas City through Raytown and Lee's Summit, connect to the stadiums, and ultimately, to the Katy Trail. Learn more.

Route 50/291 Interchange
A new interchange for these two highways in Lee's Summit include the first protected bike/ped crossing over US 50 Hwy. Click here to learn more about this "diverge-about."

Truman Connected
As part of its active living initiatives, The City of Independence has developed concepts for a pedestrian and bicycle path that will connect residents and visitors to neighborhoods, Independence Square, Truman Library, Englewood Arts District, Truman Sports Complex, and the Rock Island Trail. How you can get involved

Livable Streets Lee's Summit
Serve as Lee’s Summit’s citizen advisory board to the City Council and promote livable streets principles in planning, advocating, and encouraging an accessible, safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation network. Meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall's Strothers meeting room.

Independence Sustainability Commission
Meets Quarterly. Contact the City Clerk for more details.

Citizens Advisory Committee on Transportation (Grandview)

Consider and recommend to the Board of Aldermen such actions and regulatory measures which are deemed to promote safe and healthful transportation conditions throughout the City of Grandview. Meetings are held first Thursday of every other month beginning with January at 7:00 pm.
