The count helps us plan! \nFREE childcare is available; must pre-register by Oct. 31. \nThe Kansas City Women’s Dirt Summit began in 2013 as an event to bring women mountain bikers in the Kansas City area together. First year organizer Ann Pai saw a need for Kansas City women mountain bikers to have a chance to connect with each other. Many were unaware of the number of women mountain bikers in Kansas City. With the support of the EarthRiders Mountain Bike Club\, the Dirt Summit drew 76 participants in its first year! Women from all over the KC Metro and beyond joined together to build new friendships while bonding over their love of mountain biking. ​ \nNow coming up on its fifth anniversary\, the Dirt Summit continues to support the passion for mountain biking among women in Kansas City. On any given weekend\, you will undoubtedly see groups of women out shredding the local trails\, with many of them saying\, “We met at the Dirt Summit.” \nAs the event continues to grow\, women within the community step up as volunteers to organize the event each year. DESCRIPTION:The Women’s Racing Association (WRA)\, a group of local cyclists working to promote women’s bike racing\, is hosting roller races on January 6th at Cinder Block Brewery. \nThey will hold both a men’s and a women’s tournament bracket with a $10 entry donation. (Check their Facebook page for more details about the bracket.) \nBefore the tournament begins and between tournament rounds we will hold grudge matches. Call out one of your friends or frienemys to race head to head for bragging rights ($5). \nFunds raised at the event will allow the WRA to host events for local female cyclists and support first-timer racers as they try out the sport. \nWondering what a Roller Race is? Two stationary bikes are set up for two racers to sprint a specified “distance” as fast as they can which usually takes 25-35 seconds. SUMMARY:Cranksgiving KC 2016 **
DESCRIPTION:Kansas City\, Missouri\, November 19\, 2016 – For the eleventh year in a row\, bicyclists in Kansas City will take part in a charity food drive event\, riding their bikes throughout the area purchasing needed groceries for the St. Peter’s Social Services Food Pantry. There are no requirements other than to “get food” and “do it on a bike”. Nationally there are over 80 such events and while many are a traditional “alleycat” competition where speed is crucial\, the Kansas City event has grown into a superhuman effort\, where according to organizer Sam Swearngin\, “in Kansas City\, we celebrate the heaviest load”.  Last year’s event led the nation for total weight collected hauling in just over 6000 lbs.  Riders start their ride at 12:30PM and return to St. Peter’s by 3:30. Methods of carrying groceries vary from messenger bags and backpacks to baskets\, panniers\, and even cargo trailers. Once the riders return\,  their “haul” is officially weighed in and they are rewarded with a “beer & chili feed” party in the gym with live music\, that is open to the public as well. DESCRIPTION:Icicle Cycle is joining forces with BikeWalkKC again to celebrate the first day of summer! We’ll be serving up popsicles and refreshing drinks out of the Icicle Cycle bike trailer at the Northeast corner of Pennsylvania Ave. and Valentine Rd. in the Valentine neighborhood in Midtown KCMO from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Monday\, June 20th. \nPopsicles and drinks will be free\, but all donations will go toward BikeWalkKC’s Women Bike KC initiative\, which provides education\, resources and encouragement to get more women on bicycles. \nWe hope you’ll join us!
