A key part of creating more places for people is funding the projects that create a safer, more accessible, and more comfortable space for everyone. Finding the funding for those items can be a challenge. Thankfully, there are a couple of big funding opportunities for neighbors in KCMO:
Neighborhood Empowerment Grant (Deadline: June 21)
This program is intended to reduce violent and other crime, spur neighborhood investment and development from within and out, reduce code violations, and more.
Who is eligible?
Not-for-profit neighborhood associations that are registered with the City of KCMO and with the State of Missouri. What can you use the money for?
- Direct resident outreach
- Emergency minor home repairs
- Neighborhood cleanups and beautification
- Snow removal for residents on sidewalks and private property
- Landscaping (trees and community gardens)
- Youth employment
- Crime prevention strategies and training
- Assistance with nuisance code enforcement

Additional information?
The maximum amount an applicant can receive is $20,000. Also keep in mind that no more than 10% of the funds received can be used for administration.
Public Improvement Advisory Committee (Deadline: August 31)
The PIAC program allows residents to recommend areas throughout Kansas City, Missouri for repair, reconstruction, development, or other improvements.
Who is eligible?
Any resident or organization in KCMO - that means you can submit ideas yourself, without going through a neighborhood association or other entity.
What can you use the money for?
- Sidewalks and crosswalks
- Trails and bike lanes
- Curbs, and gutters
- Stormwater drainage/flooding
- Bridges
- Public property improvements
- Street or roadway improvements
- Municipal building improvements
- Community centers
- Street lighting and traffic lights
- Park facility improvements
- Monuments and fountains
- Ball fields and swimming pools
