More than $50 million in RAISE grants awarded to KC area projects that will improve safety and connectivity for people walking, biking, and using transit.
Five local projects are among the 100-plus projects receiving $2.2 billion in funding from the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) program, part of the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The projects include a mix of immediate construction and planning work to prepare for future construction.
Bistate Sustainable Reinvestment Corridor
Bi-State Sustainable Reinvestment Corridor – KCK, KCMO, and Independence ($5.6 million)
Planning for a high-capacity east/west transit corridor from Village West through Downtown KCMO and Downtown KCK to the Independence Square, including improvements for bike and pedestrian infrastructure.
US 71 Reconnecting Neighborhoods – Kansas City, MO ($5 million)
Planning for re-connecting urban core neighborhoods split apart by construction of Bruce R. Watkins Drive/US 71 Hwy, between MLK Blvd and 85th Street.
Noland Road Multimodal Corridor – Independence ($10.1 million)
Construction of almost two miles of rebuilt sidewalks, new bike lanes, and improved transit stops between US 24 Hwy and 23rd Street.
US 69 Safe Streets and Sidewalks – Excelsior Springs ($21.5 million)
Rebuilding the existing street with 2.2 miles of new sidewalks and 2.5 mile trail.
Flint Hills Trail – Kansas Parks ($25 million)
Building 40 miles of new rail-trail, including a new connection from Osawatomie south of KC to the Prairie Spirit Trail in Ottawa.
