When bikes get stolen, the community steps up

On the evening of Sunday, June 10th, burglars broke into one of our vans and stole five of our youth fleet bikes. We use the bikes in our BLAST programming for young people– elementary students, scouts, and youth group kids across the metro learn to ride confidently and safely. The fleet bikes were made possible by previous foundation grants and federal funding, and we were not financially prepared to replace them.

But our community has turned our lemons to something refreshing and sweet: With the help of friends, the Riff Raff cycling group, members, generous strangers, Fox 4, and the City of KCMO’s Bike KC, we raised over $2,000 towards replacing the bikes that were stolen in just under a week!

We cannot thank you enough for caring for our kids and our work. Together, we are creating a more vibrant and connected Kansas City!
