The newest brewery in the Crossroads, Casual Animal, is brewing something even bigger than “small-batch, fresh as hell” beer: they are giving back to their community from the very first barrel. Owners Lara and Kyle Gray saw an opportunity to jump into the thriving local beer scene when they moved from Fort Collins, Colorado in 2014. “We both like to create, and we both like beer…. It took us three years of planning and eight months to build out the space, and here we are,” Kyle says. “We chose the Crossroads because this neighborhood views beer as an adventure– and it’s all walkable! Finding parking can be a bear, but if you’re walking or biking, you’re solid!”
The Grays have come to love their adopted city, and they recognize its potential. In that spirit of building community, Casual Animal has introduced “Local Motive,” a ongoing collaboration between local non-profits and the brewery. “We want to be community focused, and our way of digging out that niche is the Local Motive tap,” Kyle says. Casual Animal plans to feature a different organization each quarter, with a portion of the special Local Motive beer sales going to the organization! The non-profits are also invited to keep literature and promotional items at the brewery to further support the cause.
