Midland Trail Elementary’s Walking School Bus; New Sidewalks

midlandtrailsidewalkwsbwriteup2Midland Trail Elementary School in the Turner School District kicked off their first, formal Walking School Bus program on September 30th with overwhelming success! On a beautiful fall morning, 55 students, several teachers and a handful of parents joined together to walk to school.

The Walking School Bus kick-off also celebrated the installation of brand new sidewalks along Locust and 51st Streets. The students and teachers are very thankful for the newly paved route to get to school.

One of the students expressed her excitement that morning, stating that she had never walked to school before, but she was really happy to be walking with fellow classmates and teachers! Once the group arrived at the school, this student exclaimed that she wants to walk to school every day. We want her to, too!

The Safe Routes to School program looks forward to continuing to work with Midland Trail and other schools in Wyandotte County to promote safe and healthy lifestyles by walking to school.
