BikeWalkKC congratulates Shawnee and Leawood on Bike Friendly Community awards

Shawnee’s Bronze Level renewed again, Leawood receives honorable mention.

Today the League of American Bicyclists announced a new round Bicycle Friendly Community awards, including two local communities. Shawnee, KS, the region’s first BFC, was renewed again at the Bronze Level. The continues to be a regional leader on things like integrating trails and on-street bike lanes, as well as regularly sweeping and cleaning bike lanes.

Leawood, KS received an Honorable Mention. The city recently completed its first bicycle and pedestrian master plan. As Leawood makes progress on implementing that plan, they will be well positioned to move up to the Bronze level in the future.

Kansas City, MO and Lee’s Summit, MO are current Bronze Level¬†cities, with their renewals coming up in the future.
