Downtown Bike Network Delayed Again

The long-planned network of Downtown bike lanes is delayed yet again.

A recent KC Star editorial broke the disappointing news that the project did not go out for construction bids this spring as previously planned. The project is already a year behind schedule after a few Downtown property owners (including Commerce Bank and Nicholson Real Estate) objected to a road diet and traffic calming on Grand Boulevard. After spending significant time and money addressing the opponents’ concerns, the City was set to move forward with the project this summer.

The Grand Boulevard segment is now planned for this winter, hopefully by the end of the year if we have a mild winter. The rest of the bike lanes for the Westside, Crossroads, and 18th & Vine will have to wait until sometime in 2016.
