Register to attend the KC Women’s Bike Summit
BikeWalkKC is hosting the region’s first women’s bicycling summit, the KC Women’s Bike Summit on May 10, 2014 in hopes of getting more local women on bikes.
“We hope to empower women to get on bicycles and participate in their communities as riders and leaders, and bring the nationwide momentum of more women on bikes to Kansas City,” says Sarah Shipley, BikeWalkKC’s marketing and communications director.
Women still ride at much lower rates than men – making up just 24 percent of nationwide bike trips in 2009. The KC Women’s Bike Summit will create a venue for women of all ages and backgrounds to come together and celebrate bicycling, discuss issues that are relevant and important to female cyclists and provide hands-on opportunities for women to become more confident.
The day’s events will include speakers, workshops, panels, hands-on clinics and more to raise awareness about cycling among women and discuss strategies of how to get more local women on bicycles. Click here to register for the event and visit the Women Bike KC section of the website to learn about BikeWalkKC’s new initiative to get more women on bikes. Each week leading up to the event we will be releasing a new profile of a local female cyclist.
